Requirements for a successful green roof or green wall installation
|
|
There are many factors that can make your installation a success. This is a list of the experts you will need to consult with:
|
- Meet with Parker's experts to discuss all the options available to you. We would need blueprints or walk the site and discuss the following:
- Plants that would do well
- Irrigation (if needed)
- Drainage
- Hardscape material needed
- Existing utilities
- Maintenance requirements
- Wind concerns
-
Consult with a structural engineer to evaluate the load requirements of the roof or wall. Approximate minimum load is 15 psf.
-
Consult with a mechanical engineer to discuss the equipment, drainage, electrical and other needs.
-
Consult with an expert in waterproofing
|
The following is a brief overview of what you will need to do:
- Planting
- Plan for the correct plants, soil, drainage, design, filter fabric, drainage material and maintenance. Soil should not contain organic compounds which will decompose. Sand and shale should be mixed in.
- Waterproofing
- Long lasting roof membrane with root repellant. Elastomeric materials offer the greatest protection. A top coating over the waterproofing membrane can extend the life of the waterproofing to the life of the building.
